Is Gutierrez Return Embarrassing For Pardew?

... with Newcastle United next month following treatment for testicular cancer.

But this could come as a bit of an embarrassment for manager Alan Pardew who said Jonas had "played his last game for Newcastle!".

Supporter's hero!

The Argentinian midfielder was always a popular figure with the Toon Army, and there was one period last season when the fans chanted for Pardew to go and Jonas to return to the club!

While the London press are championing the story he could make a sensational return to the club after winning his year-long battle with cancer ... do they understand the position Pardew is in?

The 31-year old has been in training with Argentinian side Velez Sarsfield, in anticipation of a return to Tyneside.

Alan Pardew (talking to the Chronicle last week): "We had a response from his surgeon to say that in about a month's time he can cope with professional training.

"So we are not rushing him in any shape or form, just letting Jonas have some time because it's such an illness that you do need a lot of recovery time for that.

"But he's in great shape. Colo (Fabricio Coloccini) tells me he is in good form and we are looking forward to seeing him.

"It's massive news for the squad because he is a much-loved figure here."

"Massive news for the squad"?

Does that suggest Gutierrez could play once more in black and white stripes?

This puts Pardew in a strange position, because the whole world is waiting to see the guy, who had been undergoing chemotherapy in his native Argentina, back in the Premier League.

What a marvelous story, and how the Newcastle fans would love to see it.

But a massive u-turn for the Newcastle manager.
