Now he has phoned Great Britain coach Stuart Pearce asking to be in the team as an overage players ... so he can play with David Beckham (pictured right).

Beckham, 37, has been an Olympic ambassador and is widely expected to be included, and Giggs said it would be great to play with him again.

WTF!

Ryan Giggs: "I’ve put myself forward to be involved.

"Whether I get picked, we’ll have to wait and see.

"Obviously everybody is excited about it, about the Olympics coming to London and the football being played in  different parts of Britain.

"I don’t think it’ll be like 20 years ago when we were both up and down.

'We might be able to get up but we won’t be able to get back down again.

"Becks is a friend and he’s a great player and still remains that, so if that was to be, it would be great."

Coach Pearce has until mid-July to name his squad but has hinted he could do so earlier than that, to give players like Beckham time to dust down his zimmer frame.

The team will play one warm-up game, against Brazil in Middlesbrough on July 20 before their opening game of the Olympics against Senegal on July 25 - at Old Trafford.
