Caldwell’s contract is up at the end of the season and with no new deal currently on the table he may have to make an unwanted move in the summer.

"I had the offer of a new contract taken away by the club a couple of weeks ago," he said.

"I have always wanted to play for Newcastle, but if I am forced to move on, I know I could do a job for someone else."
