Alan Pardew: “I don’t want to keep buying players from France and Germany.

“I want to buy somebody from here, from say Hartlepool – or bring our own on from the Academy.

“The lack of Geordies in the derby game was a big factor.

“Had Shola not played we’d have had no local players in this fixture.

“That underlines what I have been saying here. This club must concentrate on the underbelly of this team. It’s about the development and the youth here.

“Let’s try and get one or two more Geordies playing in this fixture and in the team.

“Both North East clubs are doing great. And nationally the North East is getting targeted more in terms of media interest.

“In the past the Tyne-Wear derby has been classed as just a local game, trust me. In London, they aren’t interested in it.

“Now there is more focus on it as they are still in the cup and we’re pushing for Europe.

"Therefore we need to underline that the North East is healthy and that every young player has a chance to impress.”
