John Beresford was on SKY Sports yesterday telling Mike Ashley: "Whatever he has done here (sacking Kevin Keegan), he had better change it. For the sake of Newcastle United!"

Les Ferdinand: "The first time round, when I played under Kevin, he had total control of the club. People did what he wanted them to do. It was Kevin Keegan's club.

"The second time round it seemed very different. I've just seen that enthusiasm wane and that's because he didn't have total control of what was going on at Newcastle United."

John Anderson: "We've been told Keegan hasn't been sacked but the club won't say whether Kevin's still the manager.

"Everyone seems very relieved by the fact he's not been sacked but the club needs to clear things up.

"We still don't know whether he's the manager and that's what we need to know. They should have made the statement an awful lot sooner than they did.

"I think they have been caught by surprise by the strength of feeling here.

"There's only one person who can bring this club forward and that's Kevin Keegan, he knows the people, he knows the city and he knows the history of the club and he knows what's expected of a Newcastle United football team.

"Other managers have come in here and thought being Newcastle boss is just a job like any other team but it's not. Football is a religion here. It gave the city and the club a huge lift when Kevin was announced as manager.

"Sam Allardyce just didn't buy into the Newcastle United tradition so everyone was relieved to see Kevin home. But we still don't know whether he's still the boss."
