England Cap - And Woody Has Second Thoughts About Boro!

... having returned to internation duty in the shambles on Wednesday night, Woody is having a rethink about returning to Smogland for good.

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate says he will not rush  the 27-year-old into a decision, even though Real Madrid, who bought him from Newcastle for £13.4million, announced he had made a permanent switch to the Riverside Stadium.

Woodgate obviously wants to wait to see what offers come his way in the summer, as the Champions League is his (and every player's) dream.

Mind you, having a player win an England cap has been seen as a major problem to many clubs over the generations, as recorded in Jackie Milburn's book published over 40 years ago.

Milburn tells how the big earners in the 1950s were the players who were with the London clubs, and they would brag about their wages and try and encourage the northern based players to move south.

Milburn: "I was only on £10 a week at Newcastle at the time, and it did open my eyes mixing with those players".

So on the face of it, if the Smogs fail to get into Europe ... they can whistle goodbye to their star defender.
