Emre Transfer To Fenerbahce Hits A Double Snag!

Zico took charge of the Istanbul outfit in 2006, leading them to the Super Lig title in his first season at the helm.

They failed to emulate that achievement last campaign though when they had to settle for a second-placed finish behind Galatasaray, while their Champions League challenge was ended by Chelsea at the quarter-final stage.

Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim revealed the club have already lined up a replacement.

He told television station, NTV: "We have parted company with Zico. We know who the new coach will be and he will sign an agreement in Istanbul next week."

Newcastle have confirmed they have agreed terms with the Turkish side for the transfer of midfielder Emre, but will it go through with Zico leaving the club?

The former Galatasaray and Inter Milan player has failed to shine in England after joining Newcastle in July 2005.

The transfer to Turkey was held up until AFTER Euro 2008 because the club know Emre is injury prone ... and they want to sign a fit player.

However ... guess what ... he could be ruled out of the competition!

Turkey will be without captain Emre for Wednesday's Group A clash with co-hosts Switzerland after the Newcastle United midfielder sustained an injury in training.

Emre has been ruled out with a hamstring tear and could miss the remainder of the tournament.

And head coach Fatih Terim admitted his skipper will be difficult to replace.

He said: "Unfortunately, Emre is not going to play. We sent him for a scan and the result was a tear of three to four centimetres. We are not happy about this but there is nothing we can do about it.

"Not having Emre is not just a question of having one player out and bringing another one in. The role he plays is not that simple."
