Emre must serve a spell in the Turkish Army on completing his move to Fenerbache from Newcastle.

The midfielder's £3m move from Tyneside back home to Turkey has been held up while the player sorts out his country's complex yet compulsory national service ruling.

A spokesman for Fenerbache said the former Inter Milan player will have to undertake 21 days military training once Turkey's involvement in Euro 2008 is over.

All Turkish men aged between 21 and 40 are required to serve up to 15 months in the military, although there are some exceptions.

Citizens who have worked outside the country for at least three consecutive years can pay a fee of 5,112 euros and undergo basic training for three weeks.

Emre played for Inter prior to joining Newcastle and the three-year anniversary of his transfer falls on July 14.

The move will now be completed after July 14, allowing the 27-year-old to avoid a lengthy period in the Army.
