Dynamo Kyiv - who's saying what in the build up?

Key man tonight?
Sir Bobby

"They are a very big side physically and it will not be easy, we already know that after they beat us 2-0 in Kiev.

"But we are at home now and it is up to us to cause them problems in an intimidating atmosphere, just as they did to us out there. The win over Juventus is nothing more than we have deserved and it was a very big scalp for us.

"We have restored our reputation, but it was only one performance and we have to do that more consistently before we can really say we are a top European team.

"We knew before the Juve game that we needed to win three games to stand a chance of qualifying. We've won one and now we have two to go."

Dynamo Kiev coach Oleksiy Mykhaylychenko

"We have had them watched and we will be theoretically well prepared for the game.

"I've watched a lot of video tapes from their games and we know how dangerous they are, especially at home.

"But by the very nature of the Champions League we know they are a tough side who will be well drilled for the game.

"They have been playing well in their national league and have had some good results.

"They also beat Juventus last week so they are in good form.”

Freddy Shepherd told the Evening Chronicle

"You have got to give full marks to the players, management and coaching and fitness staff for they way we have climbed a mountain and come back into the reckoning.

"Before the game with Juventus last Wednesday night the pressure was really on them to win and before a ball was kicked the mental pressure was tremendous.

"There were over 50,000 in the ground and no place to hide and the players turned in a fantastic performance. I always say that beating Barcelona in the Champions' League back in 1997 was probably our greatest ever night.

"But in my view last Wednesday night and the win over Juventus runs it close and you cannot give Bobby Robson and his players and staff enough praise or credit."

Alan Shearer told the Sun

"This is our biggest game. Everything hinges on this result and we know just how tough it is going to be.

"But we really have got the impetus now. We wanted to make certain whatever we did that the trip to Feyenoord in just over two weeks' time would mean something and that we would have something to play for.

"We know just how tough it is going to be because there is no doubt in my mind that Kiev are the best team we have played.

"They are so well organised, are typically tough and physical - but don't forget the skill they have.

"This is often overlooked but, from everything I have seen of them, they will make this a real test for us. We know just how much a win would mean to everyone at the club.”

Steve Harper

"The Juventus match was the most important match of my career but Kiev is now a bigger game," said Shay Given's friend and rival. "It's win or bust.

"We managed to beat Juve last week but that's forgotten now. Not just for me but for all the lads.

"If we don't win we're out but if we do then we go to Feyenoord facing the third of three must-win matches. I would like to think we'll travel to Rotterdam with everything to play for."

Nobby Solano told the Journal

“We deserve to be in the Champions League because we finished fourth in one of the toughest leagues in Europe. You don't get that far in the Premiership without a talented squad.

“That squad is even better now and we believed in ourselves even before the victory over Juventus.

“Perhaps that victory gave the younger players the self-belief which they may have lacked but you can see the confidence throughout the club right now.”

Jermaine Jenas

"To be honest I don't think we played that badly in Kiev. We had a lot of possession, but were undone by a freak goal which meant they could sit back and defend and then hit us on the break.

"Perhaps we were a little inexperienced in Europe then, but we have learnt a lot in a short space of time and the win against Juventus has given us a lot of confidence. We know we can compete with the best teams in Europe.

"It will not be a formality against Kiev. They are a very big, strong side with a mean defence, but if we play as well as we did against Juventus we should be too strong for them.”

John Carver

"If the players come up with a performance similar to the one against Juventus last Wednesday we will be happy and we have told them this.

"The feeling among the players is there is no reason why they cannot win tonight and then go on to get nine points. It's the only thing they are talking about in training.

"The confidence is sky high on the back of that win over Juventus and the way we hung in there to beat Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

"The Juventus win has set up the first part of the equation - an equation we are hoping will have a successful end against Feyenoord in Rotterdam next month."
