We read last night: "An unnamed Premier League club has tabled a bid of £4 million for the former Blackburn and Chelsea player after Duff turned down the opportunity to join Greek side Olympiakos".

That club, we hear this morning, was Fulham. And they remain the favourites to sign the winger ... but his former Irish national team coach Mick McCarthy (now Wolves boss) could move for the 30-year-old.

We also have had word from our 'source at SJP' that Ashley sees Duff ( who commands wages in the region of £3 million a year) as one of the "high earners" he wants off the books.

Should be leave, Duff would be Number Eleven to have found a new club since the end of last season - with more bad news - Steven Taylor is linked with a move to Everton.

Since the end of last season - Michael Owen, Mark Viduka, David Edgar, Claudio Caçapa, Peter Lovenkrands, Ignacio González, Mark Donninger, Obafemi Martins, Sebastién Bassong and Habib Beye have all left.
