Did We Expect Six Signings?

Hughton was today toasting a successful transfer window with SIX new signings.

Newcastle’s draw with Leicester at the weekend stretched their unbeaten run to 14 games and, having not tasted a loss since October 20 last year at Scunthorpe, Hughton is sitting pretty at the moment.

OK, we didn't get Jermaine Beckford, but Leeds kept moving the goalposts so we cannot point any finger of blame at Ashley for that.

Leon Best was the last to arrive, once the Beckford deal died, and he has stated he is on a mission to add to his 10-goal tally for the season and take the famous NUMBER NINE shirt.

That No 9 shirt is legend on Tyneside, graced by legends such as Alan Shearer, Wor Jackie, Supermac, and Sir Les during much brighter days on Tyneside.

Leon Best: “I will be wearing the No 20 shirt.

“The No 9 shirt would have been great – but that is a shirt at this club that has to be earned.

“You can’t just show up, pick it up and throw it on your back.

“It’s a privilege that has to be earned. That’s absolutely right and correct.

“If you wear the No 9 shirt at Newcastle it must be earned on achievement and nothing else.”
