Cort ready for action

Ready to return
The injury prone striker has managed only 21 appearances in the two years since he arrived from Wimbledon, but he does seem to be one of Sir Bobby’s favourites.

The problem for Cort though is that he has been overtaken by Craig Bellamy, Lomana Lua Lua and Shola Ameobi in the battle to partner Alan Shearer.

And how much longer will it be before we see prolific youngster Michael Chopra in first team action.

Cort though is confident that he can fight his way back into the team, as he told the Evening Chronicle.

"I'm feeling a lot better and my sharpness is coming back. There are no problems at all injury-wise. I'm keeping my head up and waiting for my chance.

Deserves first team action
"But with the quality of players we've got at this club I know it's not going to be easy.

"While I've been out there are players who have taken their chances with both hands and I know I've got to do the same when hopefully I get mine.

"I know there are a lot of games coming up and I've just got to make sure I'm 100 per cent should the gaffer call on me.

"I know he's not forgotten about me and hopefully I can do a job for him should he need me."
