Cort on comeback trail

Remember me?
Tommy Craig’s reserve team entertain Bradford City at the Gateshead International Stadium tonight, kick-off 7pm.

The game will see the return to action of Scottish international defender Steve Caldwell and several first team squad players will also be in action, attempting to win a place on the bench for Saturday’s trip to Blackburn.

Olivier Bernard will start and Michael Chopra will be partnered in attack by Carl Cort, who is continuing his comeback from yet another injury.

There was good news on the injury front for Kieron Dyer who has shrugged of a slight back strain and will be available for England to face FYRO Macedonia on Wednesday.

Reports in the Italian press suggest that, supposed Newcastle target, Jaap Stam will join former Dutch boss Louis van Gaal at Barcelona in January. This is despite a statement from Lazio saying that Stam will not be leaving the club.

Any theories that Stam will move to Barcelona to replace a Newcastle bound Philippe Christanval can be discussed in the pub at length. But we won’t know if there’s any truth in it until January.

On a more amusing note, it has been widely reported that Kevin Phillips will tell Howard Wilkinson that he wants to leave the Mackems as soon as possible.

Remember what happened when you sold Cantona, Howard?
