Ossie Ardiles: “I think he did a wonderful job.

“It is a very difficult team to manage because the expectations are so, so high.

“He did it with no money at all and won promotion with the same team that went down.

"Alan Pardew is an experienced manager so I wouldn’t dream of giving him any advice.

“They have many younger players again. But they also have some experience in there too, Fabricio Coloccini and Jonas Gutierrez being two of them who I know well.

"Coloccini found it very difficult when he arrived in Newcastle but he can be a great captain.

“He was not playing well when he arrived, maybe it was the pace of the league in England.

“It takes time to adjust. It is different because it is quicker.

“But he has had two wonderful seasons now and he has been a big part of what Newcastle do.

“He stayed in the Championship, which says a lot about him and he was fantastic.

“He’s getting better all of the time. It is a real bonus that he stays here.”
