Clark missing out on Fulham return

Clark, who spent eight years at United before moving onto Sunderland in 1997 and then Fulham, is undergoing surgery for an achilles injuey which has prematurely ended his season for the Londoners.

"I have never played at St James' Park since I left in 1997, and as soon as the fixtures came out this summer, this was the one I was looking forward to," said Clark today.

"In the next two weeks Fulham have what in my mind are the biggest two games of the season, the trip to Newcastle and an FA Cup semi-final with Chelsea, and I will be missing.

"I don't even know if I will be allowed to come back up to Newcastle on Monday night because I am still under treatment.

"But I am hoping the medical staff will let me make my own way up, and then come back with the rest of the team after the game."
