Brighton 0-0 Newcastle Player Ratings: Drab Affair at AMEX Ends Goalless

From the Amex - Brighton secured another season of Premier League football with a drab 0-0 draw with Newcastle at the AMEX on Monday night.

Neither side was particularly impressive, with goalkeepers Mathew Ryan and Martin Dubravka rarely called into action.

So, let's get into some player ratings.

BRIGHTON

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Adam Webster with Dwight Gayle

Mathew Ryan (GK) - 6/10 - Made a sharp stop to deny Miguel Almiron at the start of the second half. Wore a cap during the first 45 minutes and was probably the loudest player on the pitch.

Tariq Lamptey (RB) - 7/10 - Another promising display from the right back. Dealt well with Matt Ritchie and was conscious and smart in possession.

Adam Webster (CB) - 6/10 - Forced a save from Dubravka with a swirling shot from range. Rarely troubled at the back alongside Lewis Dunk, though booked for a nasty challenge on Danny Rose.

Lewis Dunk (CB) - 6/10 - Set up Leandro Trossard with a smart header, though the Belgian couldn't keep his shot down. Dealt with Dwight Gayle and rose to the physical challenge Andy Carroll and Joelinton provided, too.

Dan Burn (LB) - 7/10 - Brighton certainly aren't short on height at the back. 6'7 Burn is deceptively quick and won plenty of aerial duels down the left.

2. Midfielders

Bissouma made some decent runs

Yves Bissouma (CM) - 6/10 - Generally tidy on the ball, with a few nice runs. Booked for a rash challenge on Allan Saint-Maximin and substituted for Davy Propper.

Dale Stephens (CM) - 6/10 - Also showed some nice touches in central midfield, even slipping past Jonjo Shelvey and causing his opponent to hold his head in his hands briefly. Also booked.

Leandro Trossard (AM) - 5/10 - Should have tested Dubravka but wasted arguably Brighton's best chance when set up by Dunk. Bright in spells and skied over early on, but little else to report.

3. Forwards

Maupay didn't get too much service

Pascal Gross (RW) - 5/10 - The German hasn't quite been the FPL whizz he was in Brighton's debut Premier League season, and he was quiet again here. Booked and substituted before the hour mark.

Aaron Mooy (LW) - 5/10 - Similar to Gross. Found himself in space from time to time but couldn't create anything meaningful. Was replaced at the same point as Gross.

Neal Maupay (ST) - 5/10 - Hit the post with a shot early on, though was ruled offside in any case. Struggled with a lack of service and substituted for Glenn Murray.

4. Substitutes

March came off the bench

Solly March - 5/10

Alexis Mac Allister - 5/10

Glenn Murray - 5/10

Davy Propper - 5/10

Shane Duffy - 5/10

NEWCASTLE

5. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Rose embracing Shane Duffy

Martin Dubravka (GK) - 6/10 - The 31-year-old was the busier of the goalkeepers, with his touch on Webster's drive more impressive than his grab from Dunk's header. He's had busier days, mind.

Javier Manquillo (RB) - 6/10 - Basically fine. Had Burn and in-drifting wingers for company, but held his position to provide width on the right.

Emil Krafth (CB) - 6/10 - Rarely tested, though was a tad complacent in possession.

Federico Fernandez (CB) - 6/10 - Pretty much the same as above. Perhaps worse with his distribution, but similar.

Danny Rose (CB) - 6/10 - Such are Newcastle's injury woes that Rose was shunted inside to act as the Magpies' third centre back. The Magpies were rarely threatened in behind, though the Tottenham loanee was booked for a foul on Mac Allister.

Matt Ritchie (LB) - 5/10 - Had a bit more trouble than his defensive counterparts. Usually provides excellent set-piece delivery but it was lacking on Monday, and the Scot was also booked for his troubles.

6. Midfielders

Almiron sporting a cheeky smile

Jonjo Shelvey (CM) - 6/10 - Couldn't grab the game by the scruff of its neck like he can on occasion. He was actually more wasteful than usual, if anything.

Nabil Bentaleb (CM) - 6/10 - A pretty industrious effort from the Algeria international, but nothing exceptional to disclose.

Miguel Almiron (CM) - 7/10 - Won five tackles, the most of any player, before being substituted in the 86th minute, having tested Ryan earlier. Has linked well with Saint-Maximin and Dwight Gayle since the restart, but couldn't conjure up any more meaningful attacking phases here.

7. Forwards

Gayle was ineffective on Monday

Allan Saint-Maximin (ST) - 5/10 - Has been frightening at points following the resumption of the Premier League, but here often chose the wrong option and was rarely allowed to run at Brighton's defenders in one-on-one situations. Isn't a striker, played up front and struggled.

Dwight Gayle (ST) - 4/10 - Couldn't make any runs in behind and had little service. Spurned the chances he did get. A game to forget.

8. Substitutes

Carroll had some joy late on

Andy Carroll - 6/10

Joelinton - 5/10

Valentino Lazaro - 5/10
