Bowyer signed / signing / not signing

As far as I can ascertain he hasn’t yet signed but Sir Bobby and Freddy Shepherd are confident that he will, although some media sources have indicated that he is also in talks with Spurs.

One thing that is now certain is that Sir Bobby rates the troublesome midfielder highly as a player and, having dealt with the likes of Romario, isn’t too concerned about whether or not he can handle him.

"We knew the player would be coming on to the market," Sir Bobby told The Times.

"We're trying to improve the team, we're trying to make an indentation into Manchester United and Arsenal. It will take patience, time and investment, but Bowyer's ability is not in question.

"We've got a multinational squad and we're very proud of that.

"We won't do anything to jeopardise it. We know Lee has got a bit of baggage and that he needs some assistance, but we are prepared to give it to him.

"At the same time, he's got to recognise that he needs to look after himself. It's a two-way street."

I remain unconvinced that Bowyer is either the right player or the right kind of person to be joining Newcastle United, but really you’ve just got to trust Sir Bobby.

After all I couldn’t understand why we’d signed a Wales international forward a couple of years ago and was delighted by the arrival of a Spanish international defender a few seasons back.

Just shows what my opinion is worth!
