Blackburn Next ... Will Shepherd Follow?

Wanderers last week became the first Premiership club to cut prices for season tickets as they bid to combat falling attendances.

We all know the Magpies have reached saturation point. Gone are the days when we had a 15,000 waiting list for season tickets, and as attendances at cup ties have shown, the Toon fans are being priced out.

Glenn Roeder said only last week: "I don't know how these fans find the money to travel to European games to watch Newcastle ... but they do!"

But those are indeed the lucky ones.

Blackburn Rovers chairman John Williams: "We will announce our prices later this week - we are committed to making football affordable. It is an expensive business assembling a squad. But another part of that equation is the atmosphere, and the 12th man - the atmosphere they can generate.

"We have seen a steady decline last three or four years.

"Fans are telling us that, we are listening to them. Most clubs will isolate fixtures and use them as promotional (matches). We want to bring back lapsed users.

"The difficulty is that once you fix prices, season-ticket holders are the lifeblood of the club. It's important as you go forward that you keep an eye on them."
