"It's a massive game, but there again, every game is right now," he told the club's official website.

"Just as the wins we had against Bolton and Southampton in the Premiership a few weeks ago were important, this game is no different in terms of us desperately wanting the three points but of course the fact that it's a local derby obviously adds a bit more spice to the occasion.

"When we played them in August we were very unfortunate not to win the game, we limited them to just a handful of chances whereas we were always the greater threat.

"I was very proud to score my first Premiership goal for the Club and that really set me off for the season in terms of establishing myself in the team and proving myself to the fans who have been absolutely fantastic.

"Sunday will be a fantastic occasion, sure the atmosphere will be hostile but our 3,000 fans will be giving it their all and hopefully we'll give them plenty to shout about.

"There's no doubt we have had a much better season than Sunderland, in terms of points gained, goals scored and the general level of football we've played but that said, it's a chance for them to redeem themselves in front of their own fans so we will have to be on our guard - it'll be an extremely tough game.

"We're delighted to be in the top four at the moment, and although there's a little gap down to fifth place, we can't discount the chances of Chelsea and Leeds yet as they're both very good sides.

"We are all desperate to gain a place in Europe next season and the fact that we hold a top four slot at the moment means that's where we're aiming to stay - it's certainly a realistic and achievable aim.
