Beckham's future could be in doubt in the States, with news that Frank Yallop has resigned as coach of Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Galaxy.

Yallop endured a difficult season in charge of the Galaxy during which the club was constantly under the media spotlight due to the arrival of David Beckham.

Beckham's impact was limited due to a number of injuries and the Galaxy's season petered out as they failed to make the play-offs.

According to a report by the San Jose Mercury News on Sunday, Yallop has left the club to return to San Jose and coach the Earthquakes.

The Earthquakes, who return to Major League Soccer in 2008,

Beckham was taking part in a charity match for Southern California's wildfire victims.on Sunday night against a Hollywood United side.

Beckham scored two goals - one of seven Galaxy players to hit the target as they put on an appropriate show for Yallop in their 12-4 win over Hollywood.

In front of 5,543 fans, Beckham also set up three goals in the second half - after Edson Buddle had hit a hat-trick to put his team in control at the Home Depot Center.

Beckham opened the scoring in the eighth minute, with a right-footed shot, and bagged his second just before the break - which came with Galaxy already 6-3 up.

Steve McClaren was making good use of his "FA bus pass" with a 5,000 mile trip to watch Beckham play in that charity match, and he has taken stick for it.

"It was a farcical waste of time", according to former national captain Terry Butcher.

Butcher can see no merit in trying to gauge his fellow former England captain's form and fitness in a friendly fixture of dubious quality.

"For the England manager to be watching that is farcical," Butcher told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"What can Beckham show the England manager in that sort of game?"
