There will be a below-capacity Barreiros Stadium following a visit from UEFA chiefs.
The ground – which holds 8,922 – has been subject of an inspection by UEFA recently.
Delegates have ruled that certain sections of the stands will be closed for the visit of the Magpies.
The game has already proved a logistical nightmare for Toon fans to attend on the tiny island, with many flights fully booked coming back to the UK and limited chartered services.
UEFA statement: “The stadium has been approved and the match will take place in Madeira.
“However, due to construction work some sections of the stands will be closed.”
The September 20 clash comes just three days after United’s televised Premier League trip to Everton on Monday evening.
The home club had looked at the possibility of playing the game elsewhere – such as the Estádio da Madeira home of neighbours Nacional – but the stadium doesn’t have enough seats to meet UEFA’s 8,000 requirement.

Newcastle United fans have seen their team come a long way since earning promotion back to the Premier League in 2010 and nobody could have predicted the exciting season that lay ahead at the start of the 2011/12 campaign.
