Allardyce's £30m Signings Under Scrutiny!

Newcastle chairman Chris Mort has criticised Big Sam's for his attack on billionaire owner Mike Ashley (when he said Ashley and Mort had "no backbone) by saying the ex-Bolton boss was backed with mega money.

Allardyce, who was sacked after just eight months in charge at St James' Park, has claimed Ashley buckled under public opinion and failed to stand up to the supporters and back the manager.

But in another breath, Allardyce claims "I believe I had the support of the fans, it was the media that caused the unrest".

However, Mort replied: "I think these sorts of comments say more about Sam Allardyce than anyone else.

"We invested more than £30 million on acquiring new players last summer and we would not have done that if we weren't going to back the manager."

Allardyce brought in Jose Enrique, Claudio Cacapa, Joey Barton, Alan Smith, Nijtap Geremi, Habib Beye, Abdoulaye Faye and David Rozehnal and have/will they be any better than we had/have already?

Eight major signings - eight chances to improve on the players on the books.

Has he done that? Results suggest "no", but I still feel there are players of quality amongst those eight.
