Allan Saint-Maximin Touted as Potential Wolves Transfer Target

Newcastle's Allan Saint-Maximin has been loosely linked with a move to Wolves this summer, with the forward previously said to be anxious over his future at St James' Park.

The French winger was one of the shining lights during a season in which the Magpies finished 13th, with the club rarely troubled by the threat of relegation despite fan disappointment over Steve Bruce's appointment last summer.

Earlier in July, it was reported Saint-Maximin had become frustrated with his status as one of Newcastle's lowest earners, despite his match-winning performances just prior to and after football's hiatus.

Now, a club-by-club transfer breakdown by the Daily Mail has suggested Saint-Maximin is one player Wolves are 'focused' on. The Wanderers aren't thought to be planning a massive summer spending spree, but do want to strengthen out wide and up front.

He has previously been linked with Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle's Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Wolves may also be able to offer European football next season, should they end up in either the Champions League or Europa League. They will earn a place in Europe's elite competition if they win the Europa League, or qualify for the secondary tournament if Chelsea beat Arsenal in the FA Cup final.

Former Nice winger Saint-Maximin was a leading light this season, scoring three goals and contributing four assists in 26 games during the 2019/20 campaign. He also averaged 1.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 4.7 dribbles per game.

The proposed Saudi Arabian based consortium takeover has been cancelled, so there could more uncertainty over Saint-Maximin's future, given his supposed upset over his wage situation.
