A Sad Night For Owen But He Insists Toon Is His Priority!

Owen received little service as he was put together with Shola Ameobi, and the pair endured a horror evening.

It was capped off as Owen went straight down the tunnel for treatment after being substituted in the 53rd minute having touched the ball just 14 times.

Allardyce: "Sadly for us and Michael he felt his groin at half-time. He wanted to carry on but I don't want to take any risks and he didn't look comfortable.

"We just hope it's not serious. We don't think it is, but he had been away with England for a couple of games - and he hasn't had many of them - and you can expect a little tightness.

"He's getting better and sharper over time, but had he carried on he might have pulled it. I expect him to be OK for West Ham on Sunday. We need Michael and Mark Viduka fit"

The rest of the nation held its breath, as Toon fans once again witnessed him play the full quota for England in two games last week ... but walk off injured wearing a Newcastle shirt.

One fan next to me at Pride Park commented: "Here we go again! But he'll play the full 90 minutes for England in Russia in a few weks time ... you watch!"

But Owen has revealed how dreams of winning a trophy with Newcastle has reinvigorated his career.

Owen: "I chose to come to Newcastle because I though I was lacking a little bit in Spain. I wasn't getting up in the morning and feeling excited. But you get that excitement here.

"If you're asking about dreams, then I'd dream to win something at Newcastle. A trophy here would be fabulous. That is what we are in the game for.

"I know when I play games I will score goals as that is what I have done almost since the day I was born.

"I know I am fit enough now and I have been for six months, so there are no question marks in my head. No doubts at all."
